Meet Emma, one of the latest graduates to join the Forbes Care family. Emma's journey into the realm of Occupational Therapy (OT) is a testament to her passion for holistic healthcare and her desire to make a meaningful impact on people's lives.
Emma's story begins after high school, when she ventured into the world of sonography/medical imaging. For two years, she dedicated herself to this field in Brisbane, gaining valuable insight and appreciation for healthcare. However, she soon realised that something was missing – a deeper, more personal connection with the clients she served. It was during this time, while working at Horses and Humans – a venture started by her grandmother – that Emma discovered her true calling. Observing the profound effect of therapeutic interventions on individuals' physical and mental well-being in this serene, green environment alongside a multidisciplinary team, Emma was inspired to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy.
What Emma finds most fulfilling about being an OT is the profession's commitment to viewing individuals holistically. It's not just about what a person needs to do for recovery, or daily living but also what they wish to do. She relishes in the collaborative problem-solving process that helps clients achieve their goals.
Since joining Forbes Care, Emma has embraced the constant journey of learning and growth that characterises the profession. She emphasises the importance of self-care for professionals, highlighting how looking after oneself is integral to effectively caring for others.
What sets Forbes Care apart, in Emma's view, is the supportive community of like-minded professionals. The organisation is deeply committed to the continuous personal and professional development of its staff, offering weekly supervision, regular team days, and professional development opportunities. This nurturing environment fosters, not only skill enhancement, but also a profound sense of belonging and purpose among the team.
