Meet Hanna: A Passionate Senior Occupational Therapist Making an Impact in North Brisbane

For Hanna, Occupational Therapy is more than a career—it’s a calling shaped by personal experience. Growing up surrounded by OTs who supported her family, she saw firsthand the life-changing impact of quality care. “I witnessed OT bring about some massive positive change with my family member, and I want to do the same for others,” she shares.

Now, as a Senior Occupational Therapist at Forbes Care, Hanna brings that same transformative spirit to every client she meets. She’s known not only for her clinical excellence but for the empathy, advocacy, and warmth she brings to her practice.

Turning Complexity Into Possibility

Hanna has a deep interest in equipment prescription and assistive technology, believing that the right tools can dramatically enhance independence and safety at home. “I feel that for the right context, different aids can offer people the opportunity to stay in home when they wouldn’t be safely able to otherwise,” she explains.

She’s also a strong advocate for collaborative care. Whether it’s training support workers in manual handling or working alongside multidisciplinary teams, Hanna is passionate about integrated support that’s tailored to each client’s needs.

A Strategy Grounded in Respect and Growth

One of Hanna’s favourite tools is the Pause, Prompt, Praise approach—an elegant, person-centred strategy that balances guidance with independence:

Pause – Allowing time for clients to process and problem-solve at their own pace.
Prompt – Offering meaningful cues to support learning.
Praise – Acknowledging progress and celebrating successes.

“It’s important to acknowledge the wins and bring insight into what is working well,” Hanna reflects.

The Heart of Forbes Care

When asked what she loves most about working at Forbes Care, Hanna is quick to highlight the team culture. “I enjoy being part of a team that is motivated to provide quality care to the general public. Forbes acknowledges our worth in this challenging NDIS space and invests time into completing services to a high standard.”

She also values the opportunity to learn and grow. “We’re a team of 20 OTs, and I believe we are the sum of our parts. Case reviews and upskilling opportunities help us provide the best outcomes together.”

Client-Centred to the Core

Hanna understands that clients come with their own histories, and often, hesitations. “It’s important to acknowledge we are normally not the first healthcare worker to enter a client’s context,” she says. “I ensure there is time to share what OT can offer, while really listening to their lived experience. That’s how we build trust and move forward together.”

From Her Supervisor’s Perspective

Hanna’s team speaks of her with admiration and gratitude:

“Hanna is incredibly diligent and strong. She advocates fiercely for her clients and is a true cheerleader within our team. She shares her knowledge generously, gets excited for her teammates’ wins, and brings genuine warmth to our workplace.”

One standout example of Hanna’s dedication involved a client with a spinal injury. When delays from the NDIS stalled essential equipment approvals, Hanna escalated the issue—writing to the local MP and securing over $12,000 in repairs for a power wheelchair and a RAZ shower commode.

“She doesn’t give up. She gets things done for her clients, even when it means thinking outside the box and pushing beyond the standard process.”

A True Advocate for Her Clients and Her Team

Whether she’s in a client’s home, collaborating with a care team, or cheering on her colleagues, Hanna brings compassion, integrity, and drive to everything she does. At Forbes Care, we’re proud to have clinicians like Hanna leading the way in delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
