Lani's story is not just about her professional journey but also about the values she holds dear—making her a role model in the healthcare community.

Lani's work ethos is deeply ingrained in her Christian faith and her strong family ties. She grew up in an active, happy home, where church and community events were a big part of her life. These experiences have not only shaped her personal life but have also been a guiding light in her career.

After completing her education, Lani embarked on her professional journey in a respected healthcare facility that emphasised rehabilitation. During her tenure of over seven years, she flourished professionally, advancing from a recent graduate to a senior occupational therapist and at times, stepping into the capacity of an interim leader for the allied health team. Lani's development during this period was marked by moments of  learning and professional maturity, allowing her to champion initiatives with compassion and innovation, particularly in coordinating team activities.

Lani has notably made her mark in pain management, developing and rolling out a highly effective program that has provided relief to many patients. Even with her achievements, organisational hurdles led her to pursue new avenues. This search brought her to Forbes Care, a choice influenced by her alignment with the company’s values. At Forbes Care, Lani has been able to offer her extensive knowledge and refined skills, including leadership, program innovation, and a commitment to patient-centred care that is both empathetic and creative.

At Forbes Care, Lani quickly adapted to new roles, learning a lot about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), how to write detailed reports, and taking complex home modifications courses. Forbes Care stood out to her because of the supportive work environment. The team regularly shares knowledge and experiences, ensuring everyone is supported. This positive environment, according to Lani, is what makes Forbes Care special.

Lani's passion for occupational therapy shines when she talks about the creativity and problem-solving involved in her profession. She loves meeting and helping different clients, appreciating that every situation needs a personalised approach.

Since 2019, Lani has been assisting a client in recovery from a traumatic brain injury, a journey that has proven to be a memorable experience for her. Despite initial uncertainties because of the client's complex needs, Lani's dedicated approach to improving sleep hygiene, reducing sensory stimuli, and engaging in cognitive rehabilitation has led to significant progress. The client has now successfully returned to work and is actively participating in various life skills activities. The emotional reunion at the client's home, where Lani received warm hugs and heartfelt thanks from both the client and her husband, highlighted the positive impact of Lani's work. This experience, while challenging, has been an uplifting and rewarding part of her journey as an occupational therapist.
